How Much Does a Dumpster Rental Cost in Denver?

Sam's Hauling

You called one company and got quoted $280. You called another and got quoted $600. Same city, same size dumpster, wildly different price, and no explanation for why.

Why Dumpster Rental Pricing in Denver Feels Like a Moving Target

Dumpster rental pricing confuses people because most companies quote it the same way they price everything else: bundle in some fees, leave others out, and let you find the difference on your invoice. National roll-off averages for standard 10 to 40 yard containers commonly run anywhere from a few hundred dollars into four figures, depending on size, region, and what’s included. That range is wide enough to be almost useless when you’re trying to budget an actual Denver project.

The more useful question isn’t “what does a dumpster cost nationally.” It’s “what does a dumpster cost for the size I actually need, delivered to my address, without hidden fees showing up later.” That’s what this guide answers.

Denver Dumpster Rental Prices by Size

Sam’s Hauling prices by container size, and pricing starts at the following rates for delivery addresses within our Regular Service Area:

  • 6 cubic yard dumpster, starting at $280. Fits a small kitchen demolition, a two-bath remodel tear-out, a small garage or basement cleanout, or a disassembled 10′ x 10′ deck. Payload limit of 3,000 lbs.
  • 9 cubic yard dumpster, starting at $315. Handles an average kitchen demolition, a small kitchen-plus-bath tear-out, a medium garage or basement cleanout, or a disassembled 10′ x 18′ deck. Payload limit of 4,500 lbs.
  • 12 cubic yard dumpster, starting at $350. Sized for a large kitchen demolition, multiple home improvement projects at once, a large garage or basement cleanout, or a disassembled 10′ x 30′ deck. Payload limit of 6,000 lbs.
  • 16 cubic yard dumpster, starting at $380. Built for a large kitchen demolition and remodel, an eviction or full home-furnishings cleanout, fire or flood restoration debris, or a disassembled 15′ x 30′ deck. Payload limit of 7,000 lbs.

These are starting prices for our Regular Service Area. Your exact price depends on your address, your project, and how long you need the container, which is why we always confirm the final number with a quick call rather than a flat online number that may not apply to your situation.

Why Sam’s Hauling Prices Differently Than a Standard Roll-Off Company

Most dumpster companies default you into a standard roll-off lineup (10, 20, 30, or 40 yard containers) because that’s the industry norm. The problem is that a huge share of residential projects in Denver never come close to filling a 20-yard box. You end up paying for capacity and driveway space you don’t use.

Sam’s Hauling runs mini roll-off containers instead, sized in 6, 9, 12, and 16 cubic yard increments. Our long, narrow footprint fits in alleys and along the edge of a driveway where a full-size roll-off truck can’t maneuver, and you’re not paying a 30-yard price for a bathroom remodel that only fills a fraction of it. This is also why comparing our starting prices directly to a national “average roll-off cost” figure doesn’t tell you much: you’re comparing two different kinds of containers built for two different kinds of projects.

What Can Push Your Price Higher Than the Starting Rate

The starting price covers a standard delivery, a standard rental period, and disposal of accepted materials within the weight limit. A few things add to that base cost:

  • Street permits. If your project location can’t accommodate the container on private property (driveway, yard) and it needs to sit on a public street, a City and County of Denver permit is typically required. Permit costs and processing time vary by location, and we’ll tell you upfront if your address needs one.
  • Extended rental periods. Every size comes with a standard rental window built into the starting price. Projects that run longer than expected can extend for an added daily or weekly fee rather than losing the container mid-project.
  • Extra trip fees. If you need us to swap a full container for an empty one mid-project instead of one delivery and one pickup, that’s billed as an additional trip.
  • Overweight fees. Every size has a hard payload limit, ranging from 3,000 lbs on the 6-yard up to 7,000 lbs on the 16-yard. Heavier materials like concrete, dirt, rock, asphalt, and lath plaster are capped at just 1 cubic yard total in our 6, 9, and 12-yard containers, and aren’t accepted at all in the 16-yard. Loading past those limits results in overage charges.
  • Hazardous material fines. Paint, motor oil, solvents, batteries, tires, and similar prohibited materials aren’t just against the rules — including them in your load results in a fine on top of your rental cost. If you’re not sure whether something qualifies, our guide to what belongs in a Denver dumpster covers the full list.

None of these are hidden. They’re the same categories listed on our pricing page, and we’ll flag anything that applies to your project before your container is ever delivered.

How to Get an Accurate Price Instead of a Guess

The fastest way to overpay for a dumpster rental is guessing your size and hoping you got it right. A few minutes upfront saves money on the back end:

  • Estimate your debris by looking at the actual space you’re clearing (a room, a garage, a deck footprint) rather than eyeballing “how big it feels.”
  • Know whether you’re dealing with heavy material like concrete, dirt, or tile versus bulky-but-light material like drywall, furniture, or cabinetry. Weight, not just volume, drives cost.
  • Call before you book if you’re between two sizes. Sizing up by one container tier is almost always cheaper than paying for a second delivery.
  • Ask directly whether your address will need a street permit before your delivery day, especially if you don’t have driveway space available.

FAQs About Dumpster Rental Costs in Denver

1. What’s actually included in Sam’s Hauling’s starting price?

The starting price includes delivery, pickup, a standard rental period, and disposal of accepted materials up to your container’s weight limit. Permits, extended rental time, extra trips, overweight loads, and prohibited materials are billed separately, and we’ll walk you through anything that applies to your specific project before delivery.

2. Do I need a permit to place a dumpster in Denver, and does that add to the cost?

It depends on placement. If the container fits on your driveway or elsewhere on private property, a permit typically isn’t required. If it needs to sit on a public street, a City and County of Denver permit is generally needed, which can add to your total cost and processing time. We’ll confirm this with you based on your address before booking.

3. What happens if I go over the weight limit?

You’ll be charged an overage fee based on how much you exceeded the container’s payload limit. This is most common when heavy material like concrete, dirt, or rock ends up in a container not rated for it: our 6, 9, and 12-yard containers cap heavy material at 1 cubic yard total, and our 16-yard doesn’t accept it at all. If your project involves a significant amount of heavy debris, tell us upfront so we can set the right expectations.

4. Is it cheaper to rent one bigger dumpster or two smaller ones for a big project?

For most residential projects, one properly sized container works out cheaper than renting a second dumpster mid-project, since each delivery and pickup carries its own cost. If you’re unsure whether your project will fit in one container, it’s worth sizing up a tier rather than risking an extra trip fee later.

5. How long is the rental period included in the starting price, and what if I need more time?

Each size includes a standard rental period as part of the starting price. If your project runs longer, you can extend for an added fee instead of losing the container. Let us know as early as possible if you think you’ll need extra time, since last-minute extensions are harder to guarantee than ones planned in advance.
